Teacups and Saucers
A limited edition of 200.
This bear has been specially commissioned by Buckingham Palace from Merrythought, and is modelled on the Yeomen of the Guard.
The Queen's Body Guard of the Yeoman of the Guard has a ceremonial role in many royal events including the State Opening of Parliament, Investitures, Garter Day at Windsor Castle and summer Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace. There are 73 Yeoman of the Guard all of whom are former warrant or non-commissioned officers of the British Services. The Body of the Guard of the Yeoman of the Guard was established by Henry VII in 1485 after the battle of Bosworth. They are the oldest British military corps still in existence and are based at St. James's Palace, London. The Yeoman of the Guard wear distinctive Tudor uniforms with a cross belt from the left shoulder, with embroidered emblems on their coats of the national flowers and a crown and the initials of the reigning monarch.
Merrythought has been hand-making teddy bears in their factory in Shropshire, England since 1930. The fourth generation family business is now the last remaining British manufacturer of teddy bears.
Made from alpaca fleece with 100% cotton backing, the bear’s paws are made from velvet and he features a nose and smile that has been carefully hand-embroidered with cotton thread. The robes are fashioned from felt.
