 Detailed Description
Marcus Adams: Royal Photographer, by Lisa Heighway.
ISBN 978 1 905686 20 9

Hardback, 200mm x 200mm, 120 pages. Over 160 colour illustrations.

By the 1920s Marcus Adams had established a reputation as the leading child photographer of the day, with a photographic style that is both individual and charming. He took his first portraits of the Duchess of York and her daughter, the infant Princess Elizabeth, in 1926, and continued to photograph members of the Royal Family regularly until his last royal sitting in 1956.

The Royal Photograph Collection holds the most comprehensive collection of royal portraits by Adams in existence. This book brings together over 150 delightful images, giving a unique insight into Adams's remarkable skill as a photographer of children. It also includes little-known portraits of Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret taken throughout their childhood, many from the private collection of the late Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, and provides an enchanting and unusually intimate glimpse of the Royal Family.

Lisa Heighway is Assistant Curator of the Royal Photograph Collection at Windsor Castle.

Accompanies the exhibition opening at Windsor Castle in April 2010, and at The Queen's Gallery, The Palace of Holyroodhouse, in March 2011.
